The A6 e-tron’s pre-crash front seatbelts will tighten automatically in the event the vehicle detects an impending crash, improving protection against injury significantly. The Prius Plug-In Hybrid doesn’t offer pre-crash pretensioners.

Both the A6 e-tron and Prius Plug-In Hybrid have child safety locks to prevent children from opening the rear doors. The A6 e-tron has power child safety locks, allowing the driver to activate and deactivate them from the driver's seat and to know when they're engaged. The Prius Plug-In Hybrid’s child locks have to be individually engaged at each rear door with a manual switch. The driver can’t know the status of the locks without opening the doors and checking them.

The Audi A6 e-tron has standard driver and front passenger side knee airbags mounted low on the dashboard. These airbags help prevent the driver and front passenger from sliding under their seatbelts or the main frontal airbags; this keeps them better positioned during a collision for maximum protection. Knee airbags also help keep the legs from striking the dashboard, preventing knee and leg injuries in the case of a serious frontal collision. The Prius Plug-In Hybrid doesn’t offer knee airbags.

The A6 e-tron Quattro has all-wheel drive to maximize traction under poor conditions, especially in ice and snow. The Prius Plug-In Hybrid doesn’t offer all-wheel drive.

Earlier warning of stopped traffic, traffic signals, dangerous road conditions, weather, or accidents, can keep driver's safer and prevent crashes. The A6 e-tron has Car-to-X Services, a system that seamlessly communicates important warnings to the driver about impending danger, if they're available. The Prius Plug-In Hybrid doesn’t offer a system that can receive automated systems from infrastructure or other vehicles.

To help make backing out of a parking space safer, the A6 e-tron has standard Rear Cross-Traffic Assist with Automatic Brake Activation, systems which detect vehicles approaching from the sides and can automatically apply the brakes to prevent a collision. Parking Support Brake costs extra on the Prius Plug-In Hybrid.

Both the A6 e-tron and the Prius Plug-In Hybrid have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front and rear side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, post-collision automatic braking systems, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning, driver alert monitors and available around view monitors.

The Audi A6 e-tron weighs 1378 to 1731 pounds more than the Toyota Prius Plug-In Hybrid. The NHTSA advises that heavier cars are much safer in collisions than their significantly lighter counterparts.

For better traction, the A6 e-tron has larger standard tires than the Prius Plug-In Hybrid (F:225/55R19 & R:255/50R19 vs. 195/60R17). The A6 e-tron’s tires are larger than the largest tires available on the Prius Plug-In Hybrid (F:235/45R20 & R:265/40R20 vs. 195/60R17).

The A6 e-tron’s standard 225/55R19 front and 255/50R19 rear tires provide better handling because they have a lower 55 series front and 50 series rear profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the Prius Plug-In Hybrid SE’s standard 60 series tires. The A6 e-tron’s 235/45R20 front and 265/40R20 rear tires have a lower 45 series front and 40 series rear profile than the Prius Plug-In Hybrid XSE/Nightshade’s 50 series tires.

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the A6 e-tron has standard 19-inch wheels. Smaller 17-inch wheels are standard on the Prius Plug-In Hybrid SE. The A6 e-tron’s 20-inch wheels are larger than the 19-inch wheels on the Prius Plug-In Hybrid XSE/Nightshade.

Changing a flat tire near traffic can be dangerous and inconvenient. The run-flat tires available on the A6 e-tron can be driven up to 50 miles without any air pressure, allowing you to drive to a service station for a repair. The Prius Plug-In Hybrid doesn’t offer run-flat tires.

The A6 e-tron offers an available driver-adjustable suspension system. It allows the driver to choose between an extra-supple ride, reducing fatigue on long trips, or a sport setting, which allows maximum control for tricky roads. The Prius Plug-In Hybrid’s suspension doesn’t offer adjustable shock absorbers.

The A6 e-tron Prestige has a standard automatic front and rear load leveling suspension to keep ride height level with a heavy load or when towing. The A6 e-tron’s height leveling suspension allows the driver to raise ride height for better off-road clearance and then lower it again for easier entering and exiting and better on-road handling. The Prius Plug-In Hybrid doesn’t offer a load leveling suspension.

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the A6 e-tron’s wheelbase is 7.8 inches longer than on the Prius Plug-In Hybrid (116.1 inches vs. 108.3 inches).

The A6 e-tron uses gas struts to support the hood for easier service access. The Prius Plug-In Hybrid uses a prop rod to support its heavy hood. It takes two hands to open the hood and set the prop rod, the prop rod gets in the way during maintenance and service, and the prop rod could be knocked out, causing the heavy hood to fall on the person maintaining or servicing the car.

The A6 e-tron has a standard remote vehicle starting system, so the vehicle can be started from inside the driver's house. This allows the driver to comfortably warm up the engine before going out to the vehicle. The climate system will also automatically heat or cool the interior. The Prius Plug-In Hybrid doesn’t offer a remote starting system.

The A6 e-tron Premium Plus/Prestige has a standard heads-up display that projects speed, navigation instruction and driver assistance information readouts in front of the driver’s line of sight, allowing drivers to view information without diverting their eyes from the road. The Prius Plug-In Hybrid doesn’t offer a heads-up display.

The A6 e-tron’s standard Audi Advanced Key allows you to unlock the doors from either front door handle, open the trunk, and start the car, all without removing the key from the pocket or purse. Smart Key System standard on the Prius Plug-In Hybrid doesn’t offer a sensor on the trunk or any door except the driver’s, so you’ll have to walk to the driver's door to touch the handle. Smart Key System is not available on the Prius Plug-In Hybrid XSE/Nightshade.

In poor weather, headlights can lose their effectiveness as grime builds up on their lenses. This can reduce visibility without the driver realizing. The A6 e-tron Premium Plus/Prestige has standard headlight washers to keep headlight output high. The Prius Plug-In Hybrid doesn’t offer headlight washers.

The A6 e-tron has a standard automatic headlight on/off feature. When the ignition is on, the headlights automatically turn on at dusk and off after dawn. The Prius Plug-In Hybrid has an automatic headlight on/off feature standard only on the XSE/Nightshade.

To help drivers see further while navigating curves, the A6 e-tron has standard adaptive headlights to illuminate around corners automatically by reading vehicle speed and steering wheel angle. The Prius Plug-In Hybrid doesn’t offer cornering lights.

When the A6 e-tron is put in reverse, the passenger rearview mirror tilts from its original position. This gives the driver a better view of the curb during parallel parking maneuvers. Shifting out of reverse puts the mirror into its original position. The Prius Plug-In Hybrid’s mirror doesn’t automatically adjust for backing.

The A6 e-tron’s standard rear and side view mirrors have an automatic dimming feature. These mirrors can be set to automatically darken quickly when headlights shine on them, keeping following vehicles from blinding or distracting the driver. The Prius Plug-In Hybrid offers an automatic rear view mirror, but its side mirrors don’t dim.

Both the Audi A6 e-tron and Toyota Prius Plug-In Hybrid offer exterior mirrors that can be folded to provide convenience. The A6 e-tron features standard power folding mirrors, which allow for easy, one-touch folding or unfolding at the driver’s discretion. This provides added convenience when maneuvering or parking, as well as when walking past the parked vehicle. In comparison, the Prius Plug-In Hybrid’s foldable mirrors are manual, requiring the driver to get out and physically fold them once parked and unfold them before getting in.

The A6 e-tron’s standard dual zone air conditioning allows the driver and front passenger to choose two completely different temperatures so people with different temperature preferences won’t have to compromise. This makes both the driver and front passenger as comfortable as possible. The Prius Plug-In Hybrid doesn’t offer dual zone air conditioning.

Both the A6 e-tron and the Prius Plug-In Hybrid offer rear vents. For greater rear passenger comfort, the A6 e-tron has standard rear air conditioning vents to keep rear occupants cool in summer or warm in winter. The Prius Plug-In Hybrid doesn’t offer rear air conditioning vents, only heat vents.

The Audi A6 e-tron has a standard Homelink wireless remote control system for garage door operation and device management, conveniently located on the rear view mirror. Homelink® eliminates the need for separate garage door openers and associated risks of losing, breaking, or having dead batteries. Homelink® is only available on the Prius Plug-In Hybrid XSE.

To quickly and conveniently keep personal devices charged without cables tangling and wearing out, the Audi A6 e-tron has a standard wireless phone charging system (Qi) for the front seat. Only the Prius Plug-In Hybrid XSE offers wireless charging.
